Cold calling FAQ
What makes a good cold call opener?
The best openers acknowledge the interruption instead of pretending it isn't one. A short pattern interrupt — naming that it's a cold call, or asking for 30 seconds — earns more time than a fake-familiar “How are you today?” ever will.
How long should a cold call script be?
Your opener through value statement should take under 45 seconds out loud. After that the prospect should be doing most of the talking — that's what the discovery questions are for. A script is a skeleton, not a monologue.
Should I read the script word for word?
No. Rehearse it until you can deliver each section in your own words. Keep the structure — opener, permission, value, discovery, objection handling, close — but let the phrasing flex with the conversation.
How do I handle “we already have a vendor”?
Don't argue and don't retreat. Agree that having a vendor makes sense, then reframe: if the pain you mentioned still exists with a vendor in place, that gap is exactly what's worth 15 minutes. The objection response in every script here follows that pattern.
